New torrents - week ending April 5, 2009

Another relatively light Dylan week, but with multiple recordings of five shows from the current tour, as well as the first DVD, nothing to complain about. The LK compilation from the 1978 Pacific Rim tour wraps up, one of the high points of the Temples In Flames tours is reseeded from a high-quality master, and, of course, the heavily advertised Basement Tapes "safety" proves to be much less than advertised, but still a fascinating, rarely heard variation on the standard versions. A very good week for non-Dylan recordings, including two BBC[ video tributes to John Martyn, a reportedly uncirculating Duke Ellington radio broadcast from 1964, a surprise recording of Derek Trucks sitting in with McCoy Tyner last Saturday night, Marianne Faithfull in Manhattan a week or so ago, and apparently scarce recordings from Jackson Browne, Vassar Clements, Odetta, and Lucinda Williams. Plus the opening date of the new Springsteen tour.
