Might as well kick this forum off with something I've been wondering about.
What do people consider the best shows of 2003?
Theres been time enough for hard-core collectors to accumulate most of the shows, listen to them and compare them. Any expert opinions on what are the essential 2003 shows?

I really like Dusseldorf, Germany, and of course the last three shows.

I can't really claim an expert opinion because frankly, I don't get all that many shows, but I can tell you the ones I've heard that have impressed me.
I really like Louisville from the spring, Winter Park from the summer, and large amounts of what I hear from the fall. The three London shows at the year's end are obviously great, but Paris is a show that most people forget which is just as good, IMO.
So anyway, there's three relative oddities that I can recommend... hope that helped.

I'd have to go along with Joe.
Louisville 30.4.03 was a standout. The European leg I havent had proper time to digest yet, but the three London theatre gigs (and indeed that paris show) are all very nice

I was at the 8/21/03 Gilford, NH show and also have a copy. Check out bobdylan.com for the setlist and all the enthusiastic posts. The highlight? Well, aside from "Saving Grace" would be the surprise encore finale of tangled... Bob even talked about not expecting such a great crowd. I guess the tangled was our reward.

yes, Paris is excellent (try to get the Cedar 2 version - D2 starts with MOST LIKELY) Zurich is another great Euro show among many..... Wembley Birmingham Sheffield and Dublin deserve some attention when they are obviously overshadowed by impact of the final 3 London shows ! Great stuff on all 4 ! Think it'll take awhile to take in the excellence of the tour and now already there's the present US one which appears just as strong !
Gilford, Niagara & Northampton among other strong shows from earlier

Thanks for the feedback folks!
I haven't had the chance to get too many 2003 shows yet so I was hoping to build up a list of recommendations.
But I have listened to all the shows from the Australia/NZ leg at the start of the year and my pick from those is Wellington, 24 Feb. My favourites from that show include 'My Back Pages' and 'Desolation Row' and a very sly 'Things Have Changed' This was also the first show of 2003 that 'Like A Rolling Stone' was used as encore and it is nailed hard.
Plus the 2nd-to-last time Bob plays the guitar, I believe. (I could be wrong about this, but I think that after the next show until now Bob has stuck to piano. Can anyone more well-informed confirm this?)
There is also a video of about 3/4 of the Wellington show, which is pretty good. All-in-all a show I recommend.

The spring still looks rather under-represented, so let me add the two New Orleans shows (4/25 and 4/26) to your list. The first show is just all around solid with that phenomenal (or terrible, some have argued, but definitely unique)"Hard Rain" and the second show is of interest because Dickie Landry guests on the sax for most of the show. It's just a little wrinkle, but something you don't hear every night, to say the least.
All the Best,
Joe

Lest people wonder about the sense one particular part of that last post made, the message board seems to have a feature that prevents me from discussing the name of the saxophone player, which is an abbreviated form of the name Richard. So, no his name really isn't "Thingyie".

The default setup for the board has more extensive language cleanup features than I'd realized. I've changed the list so that that particular word is now allowed, because it's going to affect too many names of people who are either potential contributors or legitimate subjects of discussion. If I'm not mistaken, I've also fixed the display of your first post. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi bootboy, From Spring '03, West Palm Beach 5/4 and Orlando 5/5 are well worth aquiring. Cedar 2 if you can find them.
Fall '03 Paris (Cedar 2) and Vienna (Cedar 1) are great too.

i agree with whats been posted above. Definitely Gilford. i am from london, and was at the wembley, hammersmith and brixton shows. and they were awesome!! wembley featured some great singing, and the othere theatre shows were definitely spine tingling. I can still feel the electricity, and see the sheer delight on peoples face when bob played romance in durango at hammersmith. and you can hear it too on the recording. great stuff. and by the sounds of it, 2004 is shaping up to be a great year too. long may it continue. Oh, and this message board is a great idea...good job Peace......Dave

I'll add Austin 4/19, Charleston 5/6, Little Rock 5/18, Wallingford 8/17, and Berlin 10/20 to the list. The rest of the band doesn't make much difference to me. If Dylan is "on" for part of the show and I can get a nice sounding copy, then it's a good show. I'll be keeping the ones listed above when I give away other 2003's.

West Palm Beach, Hammersmith Apollo, and Brixton are my favorite '03 shows. Having said that, I haven't heard much from '03. I've got Louisville on the way!!
